Reduced hours announced at Jersey Shore Public Library due to funding loss
JERSEY SHORE — The Jersey Shore Public Library, 110 Oliver St., will operate under reduced hours in this new year.
The announcement was made by Library Director Charlene Brungard last week, who said it was due to a large loss in local funding.
According to Brungard, the library lost $33,000 in funding. This hurdle is similar to an announcement made by James V. Brown Library in Williamsport, which reduced its hours after a reduction in funding from Lycoming County.
“This is a very difficult decision for the Board of Trustees and staff, but there is no way that we can maintain the hours and staff levels that we had previously,” said Brungard.
New hours begin today and are as follows:
— Mondays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
— Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
— Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
— Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Brungard expressed sadness for the change, which comes after the library celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2025.
“It is a sad time for the library and the community,” she said. “We just want to be open and serve the people that rely on our services every day. We will be giving it everything we have.”
The library offers a variety of resources that includes over 21,000 physical items such as books, DVDs, audio books, music, newspapers, magazines and Wi-fi hotspots.
It also has access to state-provided and their own purchase subscription service through things like Libby and Hoopla. They also have other databases that they purchase directly.
