Sign-ups open for this year’s Soap Box Derby
Planning for the 2026 Williamsport Soap Box Derby is underway, and the organizers are seeking drivers from 7 to 18 years of age for this years’ race day on June 13.
Sign-ups are available on the Williamsport Soap Box Derby Facebook page or by following the QR code.
An informational meeting will be held for drivers and pit chiefs on April 11 at 9 a.m. at the Loyalsock Community Recreation Center at 1607 Four Mile Drive in Loyalsock Township.
This meeting will cover driver and pit chief responsibilities and a stock and super-stock car will be available. First time drivers can see how they fit into each soap box car.
A deposit per car will be due at this meeting.
Each racer taps a person – usually a family member – to work in the “pit” with them, keeping the car running on race day. Other family members often set up tents and chairs along Market Street to cheer their child or grandchild on.
The construction clinic will be held on May 16 at 110 Reynolds St., South Williamsport. Stock division clinics will take place in the morning, and super stock in the afternoon.
During this clinic, participants will tune and prepare the car. Once the car is completed, drivers will take it home to practice steering and braking.
Impound day will be June 6, each car will be inspected by the Soap Box Derby staff. Drivers will complete a final weigh-in, and both the driver and car must meet the required weight standards set by the International Soap Box Derby.
Race day is set for June 13.
Drivers and pit chiefs will pick up their cars and transport them to the pit area at the intersection of Market Street and Washington Boulevard.
The winners of the stock and super stock divisions will advance to the International Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, held the week of July 11.
