Donald R. Benn

Donald R. Benn, 84, of Linden, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Leighton Place in Williamsport. Born on June 18, 1941, in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Ray and Marie (Morrow) Benn.

Donald was a graduate of Williamsport Area High School. He honorably served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Berlin, Germany during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Donald embarked on a career as an electrician. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Union Local 812. His leadership extended beyond his professional endeavors as he served his community with distinction as both the former Assistant Fire Chief (1971-77) and Fire Chief (1978-1985) at the Woodward Township Volunteer Fire Company.

A man of many interests, Donald was an avid woodworker, creating beautiful pieces that reflected his attention to detail and patience. His love for racing, snowmobiling, and trap shooting at Consolidated Sportsmen were well-known among his friends, and he could often be found at the West Branch Boat Club, where he shared his passion for the water with like-minded enthusiasts.

Donald is survived by his nephew, Jeffrey Brooks, Sr. (LuAnn) of Montoursville; nieces, Laurie Painter (Kurt) of Elverson, and Lisa Ott (Doug) of Cleveland, OH; brother-in-law, Dennis Brooks of Woolrich; great-nieces and great-nephews, Melissa Boehret, Jeffrey Brooks, Jr., Derek Painter, Alyson Giacalone, Kailyn Painter, and Rebecca Painter; and twelve great-great-nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Donald was also preceded in death by his sister, Mona Brooks; and his great-great-nephew, Benjamin Painter.

Funeral services to honor Donald’s life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2025, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Twin Hills Memorial Park with military honors.
