Arlene L. Frey

Arlene L. Frey, 97, of DuBoistown passed away, Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at UPMC Williamsport.

Born June 28, 1928 in DuBoistown she was a daughter of the late Amos and Kathryn (Kurtz) Ball.

Arlene was born and raised in DuBoistown, where she built a lifetime of love, faith, and family. On August 17, 1951, she married her beloved husband, Edwin H. Frey, and together they shared 57 wonderful years until his passing on February 8, 2009. Side by side, they created a warm and happy home in Duboistown, raising their children and worshiping together at the former Duboistown United Methodist Church. A graduate of South Williamsport High School, Arlene embraced her most cherished role as a stay-at-home mom, pouring her heart into caring for her family. She found joy in simple pleasures like card games and puzzles, but her greatest happiness came from time spent with her loved ones, especially her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two children, Jay Frey of Loyalsock and Patricia Fillman (Jim) of Montoursville; nine grandchildren, Michael Frey (Lynn), Sharon Shultz (Hugh), Krista Beattie, Cody McArdle (Brooke), Josiah Frey, Joel Frey, Adam Scheibeler (Ashley), Rachel Newhook (Tyler), and Hannah Witmer (Mitchell); 24 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Vaughn of Linden.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John Frey; an infant great-grandson, Abel Witmer; her siblings, William “Bill” Ball, Vaughn Ball and Jonquil Johns; and daughters-in-law, Pamela and Marilyn Frey.

A memorial service to honor Arlene’s life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 16, at DuBoistown Church, 133 Summer Street, South Williamsport. Private burial in Wildwood Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
