Ronald R. Kennedy, 78, of Montoursville, a devoted family man and respected member of his community, passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

He was born on Sept. 16, 1947 in Pottsville, the son of Elton L. and Jean (Emery) Kennedy. His life’s greatest purpose was his children, and his greatest joy became his grandchildren.

Ron graduated from Montoursville High School, where he excelled in football, and later earned his degree from Lycoming College.

A mechanical engineer by profession, Ron dedicated much of his career to building and designing fire apparatus. His work reflected both his technical expertise and his commitment to safety and service.

Beyond his professional achievements, Ron lived a life rooted in service and mentorship. He proudly served his community with courage and integrity as a firefighter and Assistant Chief. He later served as a fire instructor, teaching pump operations and sharing his knowledge with generations of firefighters. He was also a Mason, valuing fellowship, integrity, and service to others.

Ron was a licensed ham radio operator (K3YSN) who enjoyed staying connected and serving others through the hobby.

Ron had a lifelong love of sports and community involvement. He served as a PIAA official, refereeing countless games with fairness and dedication, and generously gave his time coaching his children’s sports teams, leaving a lasting impact on many young athletes.

An avid fisherman, Ron found great joy on the water and especially loved following the White Marlin Open. At home, he was rarely without his loyal dog, Denver, who was a constant companion and source of happiness.

Above all else, Ron will be remembered for his dedication to helping others, his strong work ethic, and the pride he took in teaching, coaching, and serving his community. He cherished his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy, and his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, both personally and professionally.

He is survived by his son, Brian S. Kennedy, of Phoenixville, and his children, Grant, Jack, and Charlie; and his daughter, Kim A. (Dan) Ake, of Montoursville and her children, Hunter, Connor, and Kendall.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his former spouse, Joan B. Kennedy.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Jan. 5, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, with Rev. Fr Sean Carpenter officiating.
