Rev. David Lynne Phillips

Rev. David Phillips died January 13, 2026. He was born in Williamsport on April 12, 1939 the son of Raymond C. and Marcellite S. Phillips. He was predeceased in death by his daughter Christine Phillips Hillier (Mark), his brother Raymond C. Phillips Jr., and his sister Carol Shaffer.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor, his son Andrew (Denise), his four grandchildren: Sarah, Jennifer, Jacob, and Luke, and two great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Oliver.

He was a graduate of Williamsport High School, Lycoming College, The Conwell School of Theology at Temple University, and Princeton Theological Seminary.

His pastorates included The First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, The East Genesee Presbyterian Church in Syracuse, New York, The Middle Spring Presbyterian Church in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, and for nineteen years was Minister of The First Presbyterian Church in Williamsport. He retired in 2001.

He was a member of the Presbytery of Northumberland and was its Moderator. He chaired the Committee on Ministry and the Joint Camp and Conference Committee. He was a guest preacher in various churches of the Presbytery.

In his lifetime, he was involved in various organizations. He was a board member of the United Way, the Williamsport Area School Board, Habitat for Humanity, and the Interfaith Hospitality Network. He was a supporter of The James V. Brown Library, The Lycoming Historical Museum, the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Opera.

David loved vacationing at Desert Lake, Ontario, Canada. He was a lifelong fisherman and taught his children and grandchildren to fish. David was an avid golfer and proudly displayed his recognition for two career hole-in-ones. He enjoyed listening to classical music, especially opera and loved to watch classic westerns on the television.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Christ Episcopal Church in Williamsport. Memorial donations in David’s name may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Mulberry Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
