C. James Smith

C. James Smith, 74, passed away on Sunday, February 1, while doing one of the things he loved most, snowmobiling with friends. He left this world the same way he lived in it: surrounded by laughter, adventure, and the people who mattered to him.

Jim was born on December 28, 1951, and grew up in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He spent most of his professional life working at Bethlehem Steel, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. Outside of work, he poured his energy into the things he loved most, training dogs, coaching soccer, woodworking, and sharing his time and talents with others. Whether on the field, in the woods, or in the kitchen, Jim had a way of teaching, leading, and bringing people together.

At the heart of Jim’s life was his family. He was the devoted husband of Cathleen Marie Sewald Smith, in which they celebrated 53 years of marital bliss. A proud father to Todd J. Smith (wife Jaime, children Owen and Dolson Smith) and Chadd A. Smith (wife Allana, children Camden Smith and Felicity Watts, husband David). His love for his family was steady, generous, and unmistakable, and he took immense pride in each of them.

Jim had a larger-than-life personality. He loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and especially cooking and smoking food, a talent he was famously known for. His meals brought people together, but it was his hilarious sense of humor and infectious energy that kept them there.

Those who knew him best will remember his heart of gold; a man who would do anything for anyone, often without being asked. He lived for his family and friends, valued loyalty and kindness, and left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know him.

Jim’s legacy lives on in the stories shared, the meals remembered, the laughter echoed, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
