Monica A. Hill
Monica A. Hill, 83, of Unityville, died peacefully Friday morning surrounded by family at the Gatehouse in Williamsport.
Monica was born on April 18, 1942, in Chambersburg, the daughter of the late Reverend Marcus W. and Hazel A. (Huffman) Randall.
A 1960 graduate of Hughesville Area High School, Monica earned a bachelor’s in English education from Lycoming College before pursuing graduate studies at Mansfield University, Elmira College, and Penn State University, York Campus. The daughter of a reverend, Monica had a strong sense of faith and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Muncy.
Monica is survived by her husband of 61 years Ronald L. Hill. Monica and Ronald married on June 27, 1964 and were inseparable thereafter, sharing everything from their commute to work to retirement in their cabin in the mountains of Unityville.
A devoted educator with an appreciation for the arts, Monica taught English for 33 years in three different districts, retiring from Dallastown Area School District as the English department chair in 1997. In addition, Monica was an avid supporter of the Dallastown marching, concert and jazz bands, which were led by Ronald, and travelled to Mexico, Bermuda and the Bahamas with the marching band. She also was involved with the ski club for 16 years, influencing many during her career in public education.
An experienced traveler, Monica visited all 50 United States and also traveled abroad, including two trips with the Pennsylvania Ambassadors of Music.
In her retirement, “Mimi,” endlessly supported her four grandchildren and loved spending time with family at their cabin. Monica was a voracious reader, particularly of Shakespeare, and also enjoyed four-wheeling, exploring everywhere from the woods of West Virginia to New York, all while in the passenger seat of her UTV alongside Ronald.
In addition to her husband Ronald, Monica is survived by her sister, Siri L. (Randall) Naugle; her children, Sherri A. (Hill) Doebler and husband Charles, and Jeffrey W. Hill and wife Joleen; her grandchildren, C.J. and Sabrina Doebler and Zoe and Spencer Hill, and her sister-in-law, Cynthia Shirey.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25 with a service at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 602 S. Market St., Muncy, PA 17756, with Rev. Richard N. Robinson, Jr., officiating.
