Youth devoted to brighter futures

A common theme often can be found in our communities, beyond the perhaps cliched notion that young people are our future — our young people are eager to work hard and learn and improve at new skills to make that future brighter.
We are, of course, always happy to share stories of young people’s successes and community spirit. We are proud of everyone working on the remembrance garden in Max Engle’s honor, featured in our May 1 edition. We are happy that Mountain Christian School, featured in our May 2 edition, is seeing growth in its mission to provide other young people with opportunities to thrive. We believe 8-year-old Gemma Shope’s efforts at learning how to run a business, featured in our May 7 edition, capture an important spirit to instill in young people — the spirit of entrepreneurism. We commend the efforts of college students at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, featured in our April 29 edition, to restore a classic pick-up truck and to demonstrate the school’s commitment to practical school.
And of course, as we editorialized in a somewhat different vein in our May 8 edition, the workshop for youngsters participating in the Soap Box Derby, featured on the front page of our May 5 edition is an annual joy for our communities.
Our sports section, our Thursday “Showcase” entertainment section, education section and our outdoors section often carry news of the triumphs of young people and the role hard work and dedication play in those triumphs.
We are glad to share all the details of how the younger members of our communities are embracing that future and striving for even greater future triumphs.
