Police, first responders deserve appreciation

While we all enjoyed watching the 2025 Grand Slam Parade Tuesday, we also noticed some people not in the parade — but still very much a part of it and still very deserving of our accolades.

Police, EMTs and first responders could be seen at various vantage points and along the edges of the crowds.

Police and first responders play an integral part in both the parade and the Little League World Series itself. While they often are too humble to seek the limelight, we feel it is important to note their tireless involvement and encourage everyone who enjoys the Little League Baseball World Series and all of the excitement it brings to our region to reflect on their appreciation for that tireless work.

Because, while that work may happen outside of the spotlight and away from the cameras, it remains a critically important part of keeping everyone enjoying the games safe.

We know it is not an easy job. The logistics of keeping crowds safe for even a day are enormous and begin well in advance of any event.

At the Little League World Series — the scope and detail of that endeavor is repeated every day for nearly two weeks.

Of course, our police and first responders work every day of the year to keep our communities safe. And they deserve our gratitude for those efforts every day of the year. But the challenges of planning their work for this event go above and beyond the difficult work they selflessly perform in our neighborhoods throughout the year. And as we often reflect on the hard work of so many of our neighbors to make the Little League World Series a success, we should reflect on the responsibilities and burdens our first responders bear as well.

We thank them, and we believe our readers should thank them, for both their hard work throughout the year and for their dedication during this famed event.

Starting at $2.99/week.
