State — and nation — need affordable energy
A Center Square article in last Wednesday’s edition of the Sun-Gazette examine the potential conflict between the administration of Gov. Josh Shapiro and the Trump Administration over environmental policy.
We have made no secret of our support for developing domestic energy sources — affordable energy is a cornerstone of prosperity for not only employers but the families they employ as well.
We support wind and solar projects. We support drilling for natural gas and oil — and believe wholeheartedly that it can be done responsibly, minimizing its environmental impact. We believe everyone should be open-minded about proposals to expand nuclear power — while noting concerns about the industry’s past reliance on subsidies and about the oversight of safety. We believe everyone should be open-minded about proposal for new hydroelectric generation — even as we recognize that such proposals may necessitate the loss of habitat.
As such, we are supportive of many of the Trump Administration’s initiatives. As we wrote a little over a year ago, President Donald Trump’s decision to nominate Chris Wright as secretary of energy and Doug Burgum as secretary of the interior were vital steps in the right direction.
“We hope their appointments can signify a renaissance of an all-of-the-above energy policy that creates jobs, provides lower bills to families and businesses and fosters confidence in voters about America’s future,” we wrote then.
We still hope that opposing lawmakers and skeptical politicians in every state — including Pennsylvania — can accept the necessity of energy development — including domestic oil and natural gas.
