Energy still driven by simple truth
Detailed reporting in last Thursday’s Williamsport Sun-Gazette by The Center Square illuminated the challenges confronting the energy sector in meeting Pennsylvania’s needs.
The ongoing efforts by PJM to assess future trends in energy demand and consumption are important. We hope the measures the entity — responsible for generating the electric grid’s supply in Pennsylvania and neighboring states — is undertaking assist management and staff in being fully prepared for delivering service and affordability to Pennsylvania’s families and businesses.
Of course, as important as having comprehensive data to weigh the nuances in our predictions or expectations is, the underlying economic truth, which we’ve addressed many times, is that simple refrain of supply and demand.
Increasing the supply of energy will do more to alleviate increases in cost than any other plan.
We hope our lawmakers and state officials can better use that reality as their framework for what Pennsylvania needs.
More gas drilling. More oil production and refining. More solar arrays and wind turbines and hydroelectric production throughout our state.
And a review and revision to our bureaucratic processes so developers of such projects can have the confidence necessary to pursue such projects right here in our region.
The Sun-Gazette remains committed to a vision of the future where families are free to thrive — where free markets offer working Pennsylvanians real options and where the costs of heating and powering a family’s home are reasonable.
As such, we believe every Pennsylvanian should be committed to an all-of-the-above energy strategy.
