Helping fuel every pitch

Every August, thousands of young athletes and their families arrive in Williamsport for the Little League World Series. Families and fans gather to cheer on young players whose dreams have brought them to one of the biggest stages in youth sports. But few of us stop to think about the energy that it takes to get there and make those moments possible. Long before the teams take the field, oil and gas are already part of the game. Oil and natural gas play a role in nearly every aspect of the game – from the petroleum-based materials used in baseballs, helmets and cleats to the energy ...

Donors urgently needed

The American Red Cross is facing only the second national blood crisis in its history — and donors are urgently needed now to help ensure hospitals have the blood products patients depend on every day. While thousands have stepped up since the emergency blood and platelet shortage was announced, the blood supply remains vulnerable. Additional donors are needed now to help protect patient care. Seasonal challenges in the weeks ahead could place additional strain on the blood supply. End-of-summer travel and back-to-school activities can disrupt a donor’s availability to give. When ...

Undeniable benefits

Sean O’Leary’s recent op-ed (The Illusion of Marcellus Shale gas’ economic benefit) conjures up the old adage from Ronald Reagan: it’s not that he’s wrong, it’s just that he knows so much that just isn’t true. The consequences of Iran

I don’t understand why Trump administration officials, and Republicans in general, cannot explain the consequences of Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons. The current talking point seems to be “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon”, which fails utterly as an explanation of why. The reason is simple. If the current Iranian regime achieves a nuclear weapon, they will use it -- believing that their god has ordered them to destroy both Israel and the United States, and also believing that they will be supernaturally protected from any reprisal. The only potential delay in Iran’s ...
