Social Security

It seems that there is a simple, fair and just solution to the Social Security problem, a solution that the experts can’t seem to come up with for a system that is predicted to run out of reserve funds by the early 2030’s. The simple solution is to levy the 6.2% social security tax on all personal income, not just on earned income up to the current earned income cap of around $184,000, but all earned income above the current cap, as well as all unearned income (i.e. investment income) as well. But do not require employers to add their 6.2% of all earned income above the current cap. ...

Give us liberty

“We’re getting a ballpark!” “We’re getting a huge donation!” “We’re getting a DATA CENTER????” Yes, the DAN KLINGERMAN DATA CENTER is being proposed at the site of a peaceful cornfield in Muncy, along the Susquehanna River, nestled among family homes, a senior living community, a daycare center, and historic Native American grounds. Dan Klingerman’s DANKO has laid aside his history of giving to our community and has taken advantage of the turmoil and difficulties of his Lycoming County neighbors to rush in to make a profit. One website states Klingerman’s The ...

Loyalty over truth

MAGA believes that loyalty to one man matters more than what is true. It makes facts irrelevant because loyalty is treated as the new truth. It replaces reality with whatever Trump says is true, even when he contradicts himself. It becomes a reflexive defense of the leader rather than a search for what’s accurate. It pushes people to ignore clear, verified facts. It tells them to reject evidence that has been checked repeatedly. It treats repetition as proof, as if saying something again and again makes it real. It leads people to trust feelings instead of facts, even ...

Lies go on and on

After hearing Trump lie about rigged elections and vandals in the Reflection pool, I thought about one of his recent gems when he said, “China doesn’t even use wind turbines. They make them and send them all over the world making a ton of money. But they do not even use them.” So I looked it up and it said that China has more wind turbines than any other country on earth and that last year they added more than the other top four countries in the world. An elderly woman on WNEP-16 summed it up perfectly. She said Trump is either sleeping or lying. I think as long as THE LYIN’ ...

Pass the App Store Accountability Act

To say we cannot trust Big Tech to protect our kids online is an understatement. Parents – me included – are fed up with tech companies’ empty promises and easily bypassed safeguards. Take Google’s Family Link: it claims to give parents control while sending minors step-by-step instructions to disable protections. These systems actively endanger kids, exposing them to harmful content and risky interactions without parental knowledge. We must demand better. It’s encouraging to see lawmakers like Congressman John Joyce (R-PA-13) advancing enforceable child safety solutions ...

Data centers

I attended an informational meeting on June 23rd at Straughn Auditorium on the Mansfield campus. It was primarily about zoning codes, which municipalities/townships have them, which don’t, and what the limitations are on zoning codes as far as regulating data centers is concerned. I live in Rutland Township, which does not have zoning codes in place. In fact, only 16 of 39 municipalities and townships in the county do have any form of zoning code. And without zoning codes, Data Center developers can pretty much do what they want in those places. I also learned that “landsmen” ...
