Spiraling into chaos

It seems our government is on a self-destruction mission as we accelerate our spiral into chaos! The Legislature and Supreme Court are both more than happy to collect their paychecks while they cede their Constitutional responsibilities to the wannabe king who makes spur-of-the-moment decisions with no interest in what’s best for the country, no planning, and no thoughtful consideration of probable consequences. The cabinet is composed of incompetent lackeys who do not have the skills to fulfill their Constitutional duty to advise the president…they just say “Whatever you say, ...

For the PA deer hunter

Thank you for printing Senator Gene Yaw’s Opinion column, “Protect Pennsylvania’s hunting economy”, in your March 11, 2026 newspaper. Senator Yaw clearly stated the reasons why the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) went the wrong way when it decreed in 2019 the Opening Day of rifle deer season in PA would be the Saturday after Thanksgiving. There was NO hunter input asked for by PGC before this decree changing opening day of rifle deer season. The fallout was worse because many rural community churches, fire halls and local businesses suddenly “Lost” much needed revenue by ...

Read news, not propaganda

When I read letters to the editor telling us of the president’s brilliance, I know what they have been watching, and I know they have not been reading reputable news sources. It is frustrating for the 70% or so of the country to observe so many of our fellow citizens being taken in by the propaganda they are fed daily, and their refusal to read legitimate news. Our economy is in shambles and we are losing our retirement savings, our reputation is destroyed and will never be what it once was, and it will take decades to put our democracy back in order, if that is possible, once this ...

The cabinet a circus

A sage political axiom posits “elect a clown; expect a circus.” Nowhere was that wisdom on better display than at the State of the Union address last week. The most revelatory aspect of the evening was not the individual delivering the address. Sadly, we’ve become used to the firehose of lies, insults, grievances and deceptions that characterize every Trump appearance. As mind-numbingly wretched as Trump’s “performance Presidency” has become, the more profound tragedy rests in the individuals watching the SOTU from the first row: Trump’s cabinet, once a president’s ...

A modest proposal

We can all be proud that our U.S. Representative, Glenn Thompson, sponsored the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, recently signed into law by President Donald Trump. With that feather in his cap, perhaps it’s time for Thompson to take on another pressing matter. Since the president appears increasingly willing to send American troops into foreign conflicts, Thompson might consider sponsoring a bill requiring that the draft-age children and grandchildren of any president or member of Congress who votes for war be first in line for service. If war is truly necessary, surely our leaders ...

Making cancer screenings simple

Losing family to cancer changed my outlook on life. It taught me that when it comes to cancer, putting off screening just isn’t worth the risk. With Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month around the corner, I hope people across Pennsylvania will take a moment to consider the importance of prevention for this disease that is estimated to claim more than 2,000 Pennsylvanian lives this year alone – more than one in three Pennsylvanians diagnosed with colorectal cancer die from the disease. The problem is that people are not getting screened on time. Nearly 30 percent of Pennsylvanians ...
