Deer season

I read with interest an article in the Outdoor section of the Sun-Gazette regarding the introduction of a bill by a couple of local legislators to move the opening day of firearm deer season back to the traditional Monday after Thanksgiving. I whole heartedly support this and was disappointed in the PGC when it recently rejected the idea. The PGC has consistently touted the benefits of the recent move to a Saturday opener on many occasions during speaking engagements and written publications like the Pennsylvania Game News. For the life of me I don’t know where or how they got the ...

Retraction requested

U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick has argued on the Senate floor in support of the SAVE America Act, an election reform package that has already been passed in the House of Representatives. He cited election issues in Pennsylvania as evidence of broader concerns, referencing a situation in Chester County in which, he said, 70,000 third-party voters were mistakenly omitted from voter rolls. In statement from ACLU Pennsylvania: “Chester County made an administrative mistake in leaving third-party and unaffiliated voters off the voter rolls, but all those voters were given the opportunity to ...

Thank you, my neighbors

I want to take this opportunity to thank my neighbors, some far, some near, for helping me and my wife as our house burst into flames on January 27th. It happened so fast, that I am still dazed. At approximately 10:45 PM, I noticed some smoke on an outside security camera. I ran upstairs from the basement to see what was happening. As soon as I opened the door, I was engulfed in a ball of fire that exploded in my face. I reached for a fire extinguisher, but my hands were so badly burned I could not operate it. I heard my wife call out, but I did not know where she was and the area ...

Thompson doesn’t deliver

When announcing his re-election campaign, Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson (PA-15) said he takes his “responsibility to be your voice and your vote with a commitment to service, leadership, and problem-solving.” That sounds good. But his record tells a different story. As Chair of the House Agriculture Committee, Thompson should be leading at a time of real strain in farm country. Instead, he has remained silent after receiving a letter from a bipartisan coalition of 27 agricultural leaders warning that current economic conditions and Trump administration policies could ...

Protect elections

As a concerned citizen, I urge our nation’s governors to stand firm against calls to federalize control of American elections. The Constitution deliberately assigns the administration of elections to the states. The Founders understood that decentralizing this power would prevent dangerous concentrations of authority and safeguard democratic self-government. For more than two centuries, governors and state officials of both parties have upheld that system. Recent calls by President Donald Trump to “take over” or “nationalize” elections in states he claims cheats-without ...

More than the economy

In case you haven’t noticed, the American economy if performing much better these days. Granted, many food prices are still high and possibly may never come down from where they were under the Biden Administration. We need to look at the many things that have improved under Trump. Oil prices down, stock market up, border closed, criminal illegal immigrants being deported, Maduro is gone and hopefully, soon, the Ayatollahs. We have a much stronger country in general. We can’t afford to let the Democrats take back control of the Congress.  They have nothing but contempt for our ...
