Clean water

Clean water is absolutely essential to life. And water scarcity is a growing problem globally. By 2050 half the world’s population may no longer have safe water supplies. But hey…first we need to end peaceful protesting, with violence if necessary. Our atmosphere, which we treat as vast and invulnerable, is actually shockingly thin and fragile. Without it life on Earth isn’t possible. This protective layer is clearly thinning out as a result of the burning of fossil fuels. But hey…let’s not get derailed from the urgent task of defaming and harassing anyone who doesn’t look ...

False idol

President Trump enjoys portraying himself as a great friend of Christians; his latest move: changing long precedent with regard to separation of church and state. I was raised going to church and know my Bible. Even though I may not be what some people consider a religious person, I am deeply offended when religion is used politically to claim that a political figure was saved by God to save the country! I think it is shameful. Being familiar as I am with the Bible (yes, I actually read it as literature), I strongly believe the Lord did not save anyone to have His children torn away from ...

What’s wrong here?

I am writing in response to your article in the July 19/20 edition regarding the ICE apprehension in South Williamsport on Thursday, July 17, 2025. According to the lede in the article, the key word is “working.” These men were working. They were not selling drugs or trafficking children or committing rape or murder. They were working. This fact alone raises some serious concerns. Why were they working at this particular property? How were they employed? Who hired them? The article says a "roofing company" vehicle was on site, so why was the company vehicle not identified in the ...

Held accountable

Trump’s associations with the Epstein—evidenced by widely circulated photos and a crude bawdy drawing—raise troubling questions about what he may have known or participated in regarding Epstein’s pedophile crimes. He was quoted in 2002 in New York magazine as saying, “I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.” With Ghislaine Maxwell now convicted for sex trafficking, one wonders: will Trump attempt to pardon her, especially if her ...

Speak up

Too many city neighborhoods have abandoned or deteriorating properties that bring down property values, make a less attractive environment, along with all the other inherent problems. We look like a town that doesn’t care to visitors. How are good families and small businesses encouraged to live her with the waste of our housing stock so evident? Our own City Hall abandoned, with a leaking roof! An administration that can’t maintain one building is also supposed to be entrusted with the care of our housing infrastructure. Our incredible City Hall, abandoned, not good enough for ...

Thank you

I want to take a moment to publicly thank Representative Jamie Flick for his leadership and common-sense approach to reforming Pennsylvania’s family court system. His recent effort to simplify and streamline custody decisions, as highlighted in your article “Lawmaker seeks to simplify custody decisions,” is an inspiring and much-needed step forward for families across the Commonwealth. Even though Rep. Flick is not my district representative, he’s proven that his vision extends beyond political boundaries. He sees the bigger picture—understanding that issues like child ...
