Good things?

I want some of what local Republican legislators were drinking at the recent Lincoln Day dinner (Williamsport Sun-Gazette, Feb. 25, p. A1). “So many good things happening”? Tell that to the researchers whose funding for studies on cancer, brain injuries and heart disease, among others, has been frozen. Or to the veterans who have lost support for medical and burial services because of canceled contracts. Or, perhaps, to the farmers Rep. Glenn Thompson applauded at the event, and who now can’t access grant money they had been promised to help with building fences or planting ...

I read with interest a recent letter to the editor in the Feb.6 edition titled “Call To Action”. The writer expressed his support for a suggestion that Democrats and the media should be doing everything they possibly can to prevent President Trump, Elon Musk and a handful of billionaires from implementing what he calls “a hostile takeover of the nation”. Musk was appointed by Trump to lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency for the purpose of investigating and exposing the massive amount of waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars by government agencies. ...

State Senator Doug Mastriano, the right-wing extremist who lost the governor’s race in 2022, has introduced Senate Bill 213, Two Gender Protection Act. Transgender people make up about 0.5% of the U.S. population. They live, work, pay taxes and raise families, like everyone else. Why are Republicans attacking their own constituents? Why, when our country has real issues needing attention, are they wasting our tax dollars to strip civil rights from already marginalized people? Just because you want something done does not mean you want it done by Curly, Larry and Moe. Elon Musk and his “geniuses” do not know this, evidently. They fired nuclear safety inspectors, only to realize that the US desperately needs those people, and scrambled to get them back. President Trump 2.0

President Trump is off to a fast start in his second term as POTUS. He doesn’t have constitutional authority to make laws, but he can issue orders to federal government departments and agencies as to how to interpret and enforce current laws. He also may issue Executive Orders. On “Day One,” according to the White House website, there were 46 presidential actions. Trump also revoked 78 Executive Orders and memoranda issued by President Biden.
