Big brother

“Big Brother” has finally arrived. And his name is Elon Musk. While you all know by now who Elon Musk is, you might not be familiar with “Big Brother.” He is a fictional character in George Orwell’s novel 1984. This book (published in 1949) tells the futuristic story of a totalitarian state in which the ruling party wields complete and total power for its own goals, regardless of the needs of the people, or “proles.” Proles being inferior whose ideas don’t matter. Check out the novel details in Wikipedia. Currently in Washington DC, Musk and his crew have gained ...

We won’t be a ‘bird town’

Regarding the city of Williamsport adopting initiatives to be considered a “Bird Town Pennsylvania,” how does the city, in good conscience, see putting these initiatives in place without addressing the biggest threat to birds – outdoor (not just feral) cats? Many wildlife and humane organizations report that outdoor and feral cats are the biggest threat to birds. How does a city without a cat ordinance to address the out-of-control cat population even receive a “bird town” designation? From a personal perspective, I have a front-row seat to the problem -- I live across the ...

Massive freak-out

Since the inauguration of President Trump, the Democrats and radical left-wing characters of the national news media seem to be on a maniacal binge of pathological hysteria. We see people like Chuck Schumer and Maxine Waters, along with their crazed retinue, dancing around and chanting like a bunch of drunken teenagers. Extreme radical commentator Rachael Maddow, who in my opinion is a total whack job, with her head bobbing back and forth like it is about to fall off her torso, claims some of the executive actions of the President are far worse than Watergate. Impeachment efforts are ...

Guantanamo and debt reduction

I am pleased to learn President Trump is going to send 30,000 illegal immigrants to the currently empty beds available in Guantanamo, Cuba. Imagine the cost reduction of housing illegal immigrants in a U.S. military base rather than housing them in currently in expensive $200-$250 per night in New York and Chicago hotels at taxpayer expense?  This may help reduce our $36 TRILLION national debt. I need to ask my Democrat friends why Biden did not think of this since he had 4 years and 430 days of vacation to ponder it. RON BENJAMIN Mansfield Submitted by email

Another Gaza truce

A simple question, history indicates Hamas, with the help of the Palestinians and during the last truce, had time to construct an intricate tunnel system to play hide and seek. Their was chance to move the prisoners at Hamas’ pleasure. Maybe you saw the picture of Hamas riding on vehicles, guns raised high — maybe a shot or two in the sky but save ammunition, we’re running short. I’m thinking does this show Hamas the winner! Truce needs a goal. Is Hamas goal to refresh troops; maybe a swimming in the sea, renewing family relations BUT this will come to a very quick end. There ...

Out of fear

Why are so many sane, normally rational Republicans in the Senate bowing down to President Donald Trump and approving the most unsavory and unqualified individuals for positions in his cabinet? In all likelihood, it is out of fear. Fear of being ousted from power by the MAGA cultists. Trump and his sycophants have made clear that failure to accede to his wishes will result in loyalist challengers being put on the primary ballots. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) has warned Senators that if they do not confirm nominees Tulsi Gabbard, RFK Jr., and Kash Patel there will ...
