Finger-pointing on energy useless

Pennsylvanians are frustrated by rising electricity bills, and rightfully so. In a letter sent just this week, Gov. Josh Shapiro pointed to PJM, the regional transmission organization that manages our power grid, as the cause of these increases. In reality, energy costs more because we’re not producing enough of it. Before we point any fingers, it’s important to understand what PJM is, what it does and, most importantly, what it does not do. PJM is one of nine regional transmission operators (RTOs) in the United States and the largest in the nation. It coordinates electricity for ...

Why is everyone overwhelmed?

It seems that the term “overwhelmed” is getting a significant amount of ink these days. What does it mean and why do people use it so often? According to the online etymology dictionary, it is a mid-14th Century word describing, “to turn upside, overthrow, knock over.” It is allegedly from the Middle English whelmen “to turn upside down.” So “overwhelmed,” as I suspected, is even worse than just being “whelmed.” When someone is overwhelmed, they are not just knocked down or thrown; they are completely submerged. Is America doomed?

For quite awhile people have wondered if the United States is turning into a third-world country. They can quit wondering. I believe the time has come. Save public media

For more than 60 years, WPSU has been a steady friend to Central and Northern Pennsylvania—bringing us trusted news, educational programs, and stories that reflect the heart of our region. It’s one of the few institutions that truly connects our rural and urban communities. WPSU is now at a crossroad. With Penn State ending its financial support, the station’s future—and our access to independent, local public media—is at risk. WPSU needs a new path forward. The good news is that one exists. WHYY has stepped up with a plan to acquire WPSU while keeping its identity local ...

White House’s request an oversight measure

The White House, the Associated Press and Williamsport Sun-Gazette reported a week ago, is threatening to withhold a portion of federal money earmarked for administrative costs of the SNAP assistance program from states resisting federal requests for program data. As the Associated Press ...
