Washington
No Bonney Lake/Sumner Little League 12U team had ever won a state championship before 2022. Now, Bonney Lake is back at the Series for the second time since that year. It has done so in emphatic fashion, going 11-0 while scoring 142 runs, good for 12.9 per game. Bonney Lake showed off its firepower at the Northwest Regional, smashing three opponents by a 43-12 margin. That included a 20-run, 23 hit eruption in a winner’s bracket final victory against Oregon. The Northwest champions have scored at least five runs in all 11 games this summer and dethroning defending regional champion South Hill, 12-9 in the District 10 championship. This is the third time in four years the Northwest champion has come from District 10 and Bonney Lake twice erased two-run deficits at regionals.
Braintree,
Massachusetts
No Series team won more games on its way to South Williamsport than the New England champions. Braintree enters the Series 18-0, displaying grit, explosiveness and deep pitching. En route to capturing the first state and regional championships in league history, Braintree went 5-0 in one-run games, including outlasting New Hampshire, 3-2 in an eight-inning New England final tour de force. The two previous games showcased this team can win big as well after Braintree outscored Maine and Vermont, 25-0. Braintree pitchers have allowed just 27 runs in their 18 games and have produced three shutouts in their last four games. That pitching also paid monster dividends at states where Braintree won two games, 2-1 and a historic 1-0 state championship against Walpole.
Clarendon Hills,
Illinois
A team from a small town has become a Little League giant, capturing the Great Lakes Region championship after securing the league’s first 12U state championship a few weeks earlier. Clarendon Hills avenged an 11U district loss and 12U district loss against Naperville and took off from there. A resilient team, Clarendon Hills rallied from a 3-0 deficit in its Great Lakes opener, winning, 4-3 on Connor Lazar’s walk-off single. As in districts, Clarendon Hills was at its best after pushed against a proverbial wall, responding to an 11-1 loss against Ohio by earning a final spot with a 5-2 win against Kentucky. There, Clarendon Hills excelled in all facets, building a nine-run lead and winning, 9-4 to further cement its place in league history.
Fairfield, Connecticut
Putting together the most emphatic regional championship performance, Fairfield avenged its only summer loss, thumping New York, 12-1 in four innings to capture the New England title. Highlighting what has helped the team perform so well, every player reached base. Fairfield won two one-run thrillers against New Jersey, including, 3-0 in seven innings, showing it has the toughness to match its arsenal. The New England champions stormed through Connecticut, outscoring 13 teams, 113-7. They also have hit 22 home runs this summer while the pitchers have not allowed any. This group never lost a game in Connecticut all-star play, winning three straight state championships at different divisions and taking 40 straight games during that time.
Honolulu, Hawaii
What a league Honolulu has become as it pursues its third world championship since 2018. The West champions captured those world titles in 2018 and 2022, while finishing third in 2021. Manager Gerald Oda has coached the two world champions and Honolulu is a staggering 15-1 in three Series appearances, winning more games than any other U.S. Little League. Oda’s teams are 11-0 in South Williamsport and the team once again features outstanding pitching depth. Honolulu is 8-0 this summer and has produced five shutouts in those eight victories, including two more at regionals. This also is a clutch team which did not flinch when pushed hard against Southern and Northern California, winning two one-run games in its first two regional contests, including an eight-inning walk-off thriller against Northern California.
Irmo, South Carolina
This gutsy team has put the cherry on top for a league which has put together one of the most dominant summers in Little League history. Irmo is its league’s fourth squad to reach a Series this summer, joining the Senior Baseball, Intermediate Baseball and Junior Softball squads. This is the first 12U Irmo team to reach the Series and did so in dramatic fashion, erasing a four-run sixth inning deficit and dethroning defending world champion Lake Mary, Florida, 5-4 for the Southeast championship. Irmo handed Lake Mary just its second loss in two years and also overcame a multiple-run deficit in its opener against Georgia. Irmo is just the second South Carolina team to reach the Series since 1950 and nine of the current players have helped the team capture consecutive state titles.
Las Vegas, Nevada
The Summerlin South Little Leaguers have been a wrecking crew throughout the summer, going 10-0. Driving that point home, the six runs they scored in the Mountain Region championship against Utah were the fewest it scored during this run. Before that, Las Vegas scored at least eight runs in its first nine games and hit .433 in the Mountain Tournament. There, Las Vegas highlighted its explosiveness in a winner’s bracket final victory against Utah when it erased an eight-run deficit, pounded out 16 hits and won 22-12 in five innings. Las Vegas is the third straight Nevada team to reach the Series and beat defending Mountain champion Paseo Verde, 9-6 at the state tournament. Las Vegas also features strong pitching and opened regionals with a 17-0 victory.
Richmond, Texas
Another hard-nosed team which rallied from a loss to win a championship, Richmond fought off 2019 world champion Kenner, Louisiana to capture the Southwest crown. This group has added another decorated chapter to a league steeped in tradition, becoming its third Series qualifier after the 2003 and 2004 teams did so more than two decades ago. Richmond rallied from a fourth inning deficit to defeat a loaded Oklahoma squad in the regional semifinals before scoring three runs in the final two innings to avenge its only summer loss against Louisiana. Richmond won a second straight state title as well and is the third Houston area team to reach the Series the past four years.
Sioux Falls,
South Dakota
It now is safe to call Sioux Falls a Midwest dynasty. A league which was not established until 2017 is making its second straight Series appearance as well as its fourth in eight years. Sioux Falls avenged its lone defeat in emphatic fashion, blanking North Dakota, 6-0 in the Midwest final to clinch its third Series berth since 2021. Tremendous pitching has carried Sioux Falls to South Williamsport and it shutout three opponents in four wins at regionals, allowing just one run in the other. Driving home how terrific Sioux Falls’s pitchers have been, they compiled a 0.20 ERA in Indiana. The Midwest champions also outscored three state tournament opponents, 15-2. In addition to making it to the Series four times, Sioux Falls also has won five straight state championships.
Uwchlan Township, Pennsylvania
Massachusetts is the only American team to win more games this summer than the Mid-Atlantic champions. Uwchlan Township is 17-0 this summer and has run roughshod over the opposition, outscoring it 129-16. The fifth straight Pennsylvania team to reach the Series, Uwchlan Township has made history this summer, becoming Glenmoore Eagle American Little League’s first ever state and regional champion. Strong in all facets, Uwchlan Township has a staff ERA under 1.00 and a batting average above .400 this summer. It also is the first Chester County team to reach the Series and this group has excelled the last few years, capturing the 10U Eastern Region championship. Uwchlan Township scored seven runs in all three regional games, winning all but four or more runs.
