Golf tip of the week: Stay connected through the swing

Take the club back with the armpits, while relaxing the arms and hands.

The large muscles should stay connected throughout the swing. Good connection creates the proper feel, power, and balance.

The golf swing is an inside muscle game, the elbows and knees should remain toward each other when executing the swing. The elbows play a big part in maintaining the proper shaft plane (much like the tie rods align the wheels on an automobile) and the knees pushed slightly toward each other creates a solid stance in which to swing on and induces proper leg action.

The smaller muscles, such as the arms and hands, have a tendency to tense up under pressure situations. Keeping the upper armpits married to the rib cage will allow the chest and shoulders to move together taking the club back and through, allowing the hands to be passive and relaxed. The key is to maintain the triangle formed by the arms and shoulders throughout the swing.

The shoulders rotate around the spine as a wheel moves around an axial. The shoulders go around the spine at the angle they were in at the address position.

Don’t forget to enjoy this great game called golf.
