Central Mountain splits in track and field with Bald Eagle Area

WINGATE – Central Mountain and Bald Eagle clashed Thursday afternoon in track and field as the dual meet was a golden opportunity for both area teams to gain some solid experience as the season progresses.

The Eagles won the boys side of the meet while the Wildcats won the girls.

Owen Irvin headlined the boys’ meet for Bald Eagle Area. Irvin was victorious in the both the long jump and triple jump. The senior also finished runner-up in the high jump. Other individual winners included Aaron Sharp, Tanner Bower, Max Yetsko, Camden Comly and Colton Wagner. In field events, Kaleb Matis and Kevin Taylor earned victories as well.

On the girls side for BEA Abby Hoover won two events in the field as she took first in both discus and javelin. Teammate Heather Leskovansky picked up a win in pole vault. Claudia Irvin and Olivia Taylor were other individual winners on the girls side.

“These meets here are the ones I really enjoy because these meets, you’re trying to get times and distances to qualify for districts. We try to plan for conference meets and stuff like that and try to get some matchups. But the biggest thing is that everything is funneled into the conference meet. These meets are good, but conference meets, and district meets is where we want to have everyone ready to go,” Hoover said about his team following Thursday’s meet.

Overall, Hoover has been impressed with how well his team has competed thus far.

“I’m very pleased right now our boys and girls picked up two wins on Tuesday and we had a nice competitive meet today. We don’t have a lot of depth, but we have some goods kids, and the kids are working. We’re looking forward to the next part of the season coming up,” he said.

For Central Mountain, the girls team came away with a win over the Eagles. Ashley Rich, Rachel Hall, Abbey Wolfe, Macy Plowman and Sofia Dressler were the individual winners on the track. It was a big day in field events for Lily Hendrcicks as she came away with two wins in field events as she won both the high and long jumps.

Garrison Lucas had a big day for the Central Mountain boys track team as he earned wins in the 100 hurdles and 200. Brett Gerlach, Logan Dawes and Anton Stratts were winners in field events for the Wildcats.

“I think we’re doing well. I think there’s been a lot of improvements each meet, and everyone is working hard to achieve their goals,” Wildcats coach Ellie Sikorskas said. “We have some pretty good people on the track and off the track I’m just hoping to get as many people to our PHAC and districts as we can.”
