Williamsport West End posts dominant win, earns No. 1 seed in Babe Ruth state tourney

After going 4-for-5 on Saturday, Trey Damschroder collected four hits in four at bats, as Williamsport West End defeated Broomall Newtown, 17-1, on Sunday. Those hits included a fourth-inning homer, two doubles and a single.

With the win, the team earned the No. 1 seed in the Pennsylvania Babe Ruth 15/16 tournament and will play fourth-seeded Pine Fordge in the semifinals. That game is set for 11 a.m. on Monday, with the state championship set for 5 p.m.

Williamsport West End got the ball rolling immediately, as a Noah Kirby sacrifice fly scored one run in the first and Nate Crowe, Jaxson March and Mason Hess doubles put in five combined runs to follow up. It’d score two more runs in the top of the second on a home run to left field by Camden March and five more in the third off six hits.

From there, they’d keep piling on, as four more Williamsport West End runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 17-1. There, Hess singled, scoring one run, Hill grounded out, scoring one run, and Damschroder homered to center field, scoring two runs.

Crowe stepped on the mound first for the team. surrendering just one hit and one run over 1 1/3 innings and striking out none and walking four. Rian O’Neill started the game for Broomall Newtown. Isaac Sparks then threw 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball in relief, giving up one hit, striking out two and walking one.

Williamsport West End accumulated 18 hits in the game. March, Cade Lusk, Hess and Hill each collected multiple, with Hill stealing two bases. The team ran wild on the base paths, tallying six stolen bases for the game.
