MILL HALL — The Clinton County Speedway hosted its fourth annual Phil Walter Classic on Saturday night for the 410 sprint cars. Ryan Smith of Fleetwood charged to the front of the field to become the fourth different driver to win the race honoring the speedway’s all-time 410 sprint car feature winner: Phil Walter.

Jillian Maurer of Elysburg won her second career 270 micro sprint feature and Jimmy Moyer of Lewistown won the four cylinder stock car event.

Jordan Givler of Enola and Billy Dietrich of Aspers led the full field of sprint cars to the green flag. Dietrich quickly grabbed the lead as the duo charged into Turns 1 and 2. By lap five, Dietrich was leading Givler, Dale Schweikart of Linden, Garrett Bard of Wells Tannery and Greg Wilson of Benton Ridge, Ohio.

Ryan Smith, who started eighth, worked his way up to the sixth position and was able to pass both Wilson and Bard on lap eight. Lapped traffic became a factor as Dietrich was setting a blistering pace with Givler and Schweikart running in the top three.

In heavy lapped traffic, Smith was making moves and marching toward the front. By the completion of lap 15, Smith had taken over the second position, however Dietrich had built a sizeable lead over second place.

Smith continued to close in on Dietrich as the leaders worked their way through lapped traffic. On lap 20, Smith made the pass for the lead and Dietrich was passing some lapped cars and slid high on the exit of Turn 4. Dietrich did not spin out, but he lost his momentum allowing Givler and Bard to pass him.

On lap 24, the red flag came out for Dakota Schweikart who rolled onto his side. Schweikart was ok and the racing resumed with Smith leading, Givler, Bard, Dietrich, and Wilson. On lap 26, Dietrich passed Bard for the third postion. With five laps remaining, Smith was racing in clean air with Givler, Dietrich, Wlson and Bard.

On the final lap Smith was about to enter lapped traffic once again as he crossed the line to earn the win over Givler, Dietrich, Wilson and Bard. Sixth through tenth were Chris Frank of Wellsville, Jordan Poirier of Canada, Ryan Newton of Australia, Gerard McIntyre Jr. of New Oxford, and Ricky Peterson of Rawson, Ohio.

Garrison Zook and Jillian Maurer started on the front row of the 270 micro sprint feature event. Zook took the early lead. A lap-two caution occurred when Jeff Weaver Jr.’s car stopped on the track on the track. Following the restart Jillian Mauer ceased the opportunity and powered past Zook. At the midway point of the race, Maurer was leading Zook, Corey Stabley, Connor Metheny and Mac Wert.

The top five remained in the order for the remainder of the event, as Maurer claimed her second win of the season. Sixth through tenth were Jason Klinger, Blade Myers, Colton Guiher, Lester Stabley and Jeff Weaver Jr.

Zak Kline and Tyler Watson led the field of four cylinders to the green flag. Watson took the lead of the drop of green, but fourth place starter Jimmy Moyer stole the lead on lap four. Kline took the second postion, shuffling Watson back to third. Moyer continued to lead the way. With tow laps to go, Brett Hanley moved into the top three.

Moyer claimed with victory over Kline, Hanley, Watson and Mathew Kauffman. Sixth through tenth were Coty Maines, Tim Teneyck, Hunter Flook, Jed Nessinger and Koltan Martin.

The Clinton County Speedway will host the Len Stroud Memorial on Friday for the limited late models, plus the winged sportsman, pro stocks, 270 micros and four cylinders in addition to kids power wheels racing at intermission.
