Tebbs picks up sprint car win at Clinton County

MILL HALL — Matt Tebbs of Cogan Station took the lead on lap ten to secure his second career Sprint Car feature event at the Clinton County Speedway on Friday Night. Cory Long of Selinsgrove won the pro stocks, Lock Haven’s Jeffrey Weaver won the pro stocks and Avis’ Hunter Flook won the four-cylinder feature.

It was the final night for drivers to earn points, so the 2025 championships were also on the line.

Erick Knopp of Fawn Grove and Fred Arnold of Richfield brought the field of 25 sprint cars to the green flag. The caution came out before the completion of the first lap when Dillon Beadle of Mount Cobb and Austin Greenland of Milroy stopped on the track. As the field came back to green, Arnold emerged as the early leader.

With five laps completed, Arnold was leading fourth place starter Jarrett Cavalet of Hollidaysburg, Tebbs, Owen Dimm of Mifflintown and John Walp of Wapwallopen.

Cavalet and Tebbs kept pace with Arnold, which resulted in a fierce battle for the lead. On lap nine, as the trio raced into turn number three, Tebbs made a move passing the top two drivers to take the lead at the completion of lap ten.

Cavalet followed Tebbs to claim the second spot.

At the midway point of the race, Tebbs was leading, Cavalet, Dimm, Arnold and Ken Duke. Tebbs meticulously worked this way through lapped traffic. At one point, Tebbs had two lapped cars separating himself from Cavalet. But with two laps to go the caution flagged waved, erasing Tebbs lead and giving Cavalet an opportunity to strike.

Tebbs brought the field off of turn four with the restart and held off Cavalet for the win. Ken Duke was third, Dimm was fourth and Lock Haven’s Jeff Weaver rounded out the top five.

Marc Bitler of Milton led the first two circuits of the Pro Stock feature event. Third-place starter Cory Long made a pass for the lead by the completion of lap number three. By lap number 10, Long was leading Bitler, AJ Hoffman, Denny Fourney, and Noah Kissinger. Long started to pull away from the rest of the field as Bitler, Hoffman and Fourney were contending for the second-place position.

Long cruised to his second win in a row over Bitler, Hoffman, Fourney, and Kissinger.

Nathan Bacon of Millville started on the pole for the start of the 270 Micro Sprint feature event. Bacon took the lead with Michael Petock, Cory Stabley, Jeffrey Weaver, and Jillian Maurer in the top five. Weaver moved into second position on lap number three. On the seventh lap, Weaver caught Bacon and made a pass for the lead. Sixth place starter Quinn Roberts of Berwick worked his way forward and moved into second place by lap number nine and he set his sights on Weaver.

Weaver continued to the remaining laps to win the event over Quinn, Bacon, Petock, and Mac Wert. Sixth through tenth were Jillian Maurer, Garrison Zook, Cory Stabley, Zachary Glass and Andrew Petock.

Flook started on the front row for the four cylinder main event. Flook took the lead at the drop of the green flag and third place starter, Matt Weaver of Mt. Pleasant Mills quickly moved into second place. Mill Hall’s Zak Kline, who started sixth, charged forward to move into third place. At the race’s midway point, Flook was leading, Weaver, Kline, Scott Englert of Bellefonte, and Garrett Lucas of Aaronsburg. Flook continued to lead the way as Larry Beachel, the current point leader moved into the top five on lap number seven.

Flook held off Weaver for the win, as Kline brought out the caution in turn number four. Engler finished third followed by Beachel and Lucas. Sixth through tenth were Ken Smith, Coty Maines, Kevin Trimpey, Zak Kline and Richard Eldred.

The next event at the Clinton County Speedway will be the season finale on Saturday, Sept. 20 with the Fall Clash for the super late models, RaceSaver sprints and an open competition four-cylinder event will be on the card.
