Central Mountain PPG–0, PPA–37.5; YPG–83.5, YPA–307.5

Central Mountain notes: The Wildcats (0-2) are seeking their first win against Williamsport since winning at Millionaire Stadium in the 2014 season opener. Central Mountain has hung in defensively at times these first two weeks but has been unable to sustain drives and keep the defense fresh. Linebacker Kole Corman was a force a week ago against Bloomsburg, making a program-record 24 tackles, including 13 solos. Corman also collected three sacks and now has the top two tackle games in Central Mountain history, reaching 20 three times since late last season. Jacob Rembold also has a sack and Hayes Donley has 13 tackles in two games as a first-time starter. Sophomore quarterback Kyle Everett is starting for the first time and showed some promise last week, averaging 15 yards per completion. Ricky Rohrbach has good speed and caught three passes for 44 yards. Running the ball has proven difficult the first two weeks and Central Mountain is averaging just over two yards per carry.

Central Mountain Player to watch–Dalton McDermott: The senior combines with Corman to give Central Mountain quite a linebacking tandem. McDermott has 23 tackles in his first two games, recording double figures both times. He also figures prominently in the offense and averaged nearly seven yards per catch last week, catching two passes for 33 yards.

Williamsport PPG–29.5, PPA–13.5; YPG–344.5, YPA–356.5

Williamsport notes: Williamsport is trying to start 3-0 for a second straight season while also opening its HAC-I schedule with a victory. Despite the 2-0 start, the Millionaires are third in the District 2-4 Class 6A standings, trailing Scranton and Wilkes-Barre who are both 1-1. The Millionaire offensive line took a big step forward last week against Hazleton, driving defenders off the ball and paving the way for Giovanni White who continued his strong start and ran for 218 yards with three touchdowns. The Millionaires have won their two games in different fashion with the running game dominating last week and the passing game carving up Wyoming Valley West in the opener. That night, Tevin Williams threw for 234 yards and a touchdown with four different receivers averaging at least 15 yards per catch. The defense has bent at times the first two weeks, but rarely broken, making repeated timely stops and intercepting six passes. Equally impressive, six different players have those interceptions. Logan Parrish also produced a sack last week as Williamsport won its fourth consecutive game against Hazleton.

Williamsport Player to watch–Cordoza Minor: The two-way lineman helps anchor the Millionaires on both sides of the ball. A three-year starter, Minor is tough off the edge defensively and is part of an experienced line which made its presence felt a week ago.

Outlook: Central Mountain’s defense has the potential to make things interesting but it needs the offense to find a way to generate something. The Millionaires have scored 59 points in two games, so it will be hard holding them down for four quarters.
