MARK NANCE/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Jersey Shore's Bo Sechrist runs back the ball after making a pass interception setting up the Bulldog's first score against Dallas in Week 1.
Jersey Shore PPG–38.0, PPA–24.5; YPG–435, YPA–358
Jersey Shore notes: Linemen Mason Larson, Talyn Lope, Nate Thompson, Brayden Swales and Isaac Shirey overpowered Delaware Valley last Friday, clearing the way for 579 yards in a 49-42 win. Jersey Shore has navigated another difficult schedule to start 2-0 for a seventh straight season and is trying to win for the first time at Selinsgrove since 2021. This has been one of the district’s best rivalries since 2013 with Jersey Shore and Selinsgrove meeting in the playoffs every year except 2020. They have swapped playoff victories the past two seasons. This is the second in a run of three straight road games for Jersey Shore which held on after Delaware Valley scored 21 straight points to make it a seven-point game a week ago. Bo Sechrist ran for a career-high 156 yards and sophomore Kash Herritt burst onto the scene, running for 142 yards with three scores. Quarterback Nolen Pauling is tied for the area lead in passing yards and totaled 281 yards and two touchdowns a week ago. Carson Watkins leads the area in receiving yards and touchdowns, going over 100 yards in both games. Herritt, Sechrist and Luke Thompson all have made more than 20 tackles. Jayden Passetti is performing well in his first season kicking, converting 10 of 11 extra points.
Jersey Shore Player to watch–Talyn Lope: A senior defensive tackle, Lope showed promise last year and has made a big impact thus far. Lope has 19 tackles in two contests, also recovering a fumble. He has made at least nine tackles in both games and also has been crucial to the offense’s success.
Selinsgrove PPG–3.5, PPA–40.0; YPG–153, YPA–422.5
Selinsgrove notes: Selinsgrove (0-2) is as young as at any point over the last 15 years and has struggled to get its offense going against a tough run of early-season opponents, including 2024 Class AAAA quarterfinalist Juniata and 4A state-ranked Twin Valley. Senior Brett Rice is one of the team’s most experienced players and ran for 105 yards and a touchdown at Juniata. Quarterback Rocco Amato started last year and has not been intercepted in 40 attempts. He nearly had 1,000 yards last year, throwing for 982 yards with seven touchdowns. He also threw a touchdown pass in both games against Jersey Shore a year ago. Wyatt Teats both leads the team in receiving and with 18 tackles. Nash Fordyce picked off a pass against Juniata and junior linebacker Owen Hoffman has 15 tackles.
Selinsgrove Player to watch–Logan Dressler: The inside linebacker is one of Selinsgrove’s leading tacklers and is coming off a breakthrough season a year ago. Dressler also has a sack and averaged 6.5 tackles last year when he also caused two fumbles and recovered two more.
Outlook: This could be a trap game with Jersey Shore coming off a big win and heading to Shamokin next week. Look for coach Tom Gravish, however, to keep his team focused, especially since it always has had a tough time when playing the Seals at Selinsgrove. One gets the feeling Selinsgrove is better than its first two games say, so anything goes in this rivalry showdown.
