Local roundup: Montgomery boys soccer earns 2-1 win vs. Sullivan County
Montgomery improved to 7-4 in boys soccer thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 win against Mid-Penn foe Sullivan County on the road on Thursday.
The Red Raiders opened up the scoring 14:41 into the game wtih Dylan Sherman got the ball at midfield and went down the right side, splitting the Griffins defense and beating the Sullivan keeper for a 1-0 lead.
Camden Dalrymple scored after the ball got away from the keeper and into the net for a 2-0 lead at the half.
“It is always nice to pick up a Mid-Penn victory as records typically mean nothing in these matches,” said Montgomery coach Michael Sherman. “We had to shuffle some players around on defense tonight due to an illness and we were not able to find our rhythm like we have in recent matches. At the end of the day, it goes in the win column like any other, so we will take it and move on.”
Sullivan County came out with intensity in the second half and Tucker Blasi cut the lead to a single goal with 35 minutes to play. Although the Griffins had momentum throughout the remainder of the game, the Red Raiders wouldn’t concede another goal and hold on for the win.
Cash Hill played well at outside back to limit scoring opportunities late in the game. Conor Irwin also had a solid game in goal to secure the win thanks to great saves.

Southern Columbia would score twice more to take a lead in the secod half. The Defenders cut the deficit to 3-2 when Brooke Ryder found Zaktansky on a corner kick, but Warrior Run was unable to put in an equalizer.
