Football roundup: Lewisburg cruises past Midd-West

Lewisburg scored 14 points in the first and second quarters en route to a 35-7 win against Midd-West at home on Friday night in Week 7 action.

Jaylen Walker had three touchdown receptions on Friday for 43, 76 and 17 yards, catching one in each of the first three quarters.

“They played man-to-man (in the secondary) and if you go back and watch the last couple games the pas tfew weeks, I was double teamed, so that’s why I got as many targets as I ddi this week,” Walker said. “If a team’s playing man-to-man, we’re going to take our shot every time. I’m one of the better receivers in the area, so if a team’s playing me man-to-man, we’re going to take a shot every time.”

Walker ended the game with five receptions for 153 yards and three touchdowns. Xavier Carter went 9 for 11 for 192 passing yards.

Carter had a 1-yard touchdown run to put Lewisburg ahead, 7-0, before Walker caught a 43-yard strike from him for a 14-0 lead. Walker then caught a 76-yard touchdown with 7:52 until halftime before a Nick Coleman run made it a 28-0 lead with 44 secods to play until halftime.

Lewisburg outgained Midd-West as a team in total yards, 334-148, and limited Midd-West to just 83 rushing yards on 33 carries. The Green Dragons were led by Coleman, who had seven carries for 78 yards and Aayden Bynum (4 for 26).

Midd-West broke the shutout up with a touchdown with 4:32 to play when Keaton Kreider scored from one yard out.

MUNCY 21, NP-MANSFIELD 9

Andrew Walters totaled 219 yards and two touchdowns and Layken Harris scored a key fourth quarter touchdown as Muncy defeated North Penn-Mansfield, 21-9 at Island Park. Walters scored on two three-yard runs as Muncy erased a 3-0 first quarter deficit and took a 14-3 lead after three quarters. Luke Kreger made it a five-point game with a 24-yard fourth quarter touchdown before Harris scored from seven yards out a little more than four minutes later, helping Muncy (5-2) hold off the Panthers (4-3).

Harris ran for 73 yards and Walters 63, while throwing for 156 yards. Walters went over 1,000 passing yards as well and the defense allowed just 35 rushing yards. Kreger caught nine passes for 138 yards and also ran for 50 yards.

MONTOURSVILLE 44, CENTRAL MOUNTAIN 0

Montoursville’s offense put up 44 points and defensively, limited Central Mountain and handed the Wildcats their seventh loss as Central Mountain remains searching for its first win of the year.

The victory moves Montoursville to 6-1.

Statistics for Montoursville and Central Mountain were not made available.

The win is the third consecutive shutout for Montoursville since losing to Mifflinburg, 35-7. The Warriors have outscored their last three opponents, 123-0. Montoursville hosts Southern Columbia in Week 8.

Central Mountain hosts Mount Carmel in Week 8 and closes the year with two very tough opponents in defending state champion Troy (Oct. 17) and District 4 power Jersey Shore (Oct. 24).

MILTON 55, CENTRAL COLUMBIA 0

Montgomery Fisher had an outstanding night for the Black Panthers. Fisher had 16 carries for 238 rushing yards and found the endzone five times in the 55-point rout over the Blue Jays.

Fisher had four first-quarter touchdown runs. He had scores of 27, 61 and 12 yards within the first seven-and-a-half minutes of the game to make it a quick 21-0 lead. JaCori Brown then caught a 14-yard pass from Fisher for a 28-0 lead with 3:27 until the first quarter ended.

Fisher then punched in a 25-yard run with 16 seconds left in the first quarter as the Black Panthers had a commanding lead after the first quarter, 34-0.

Fisher’s other touchdown run came in the second quarter with 42 seconds until halftime from 40 yards out to put the mercy rule into effect.

Milton had 458 yards of total offense and defensively, held Central Columbia to just 62 yards as the Blue Jays had just 12 passing yards and had 50 rushing yards on 29 carries.

Fisher also finished the day going 6 for 9 for 85 yards and two touchdowns.

TROY 53, WELLSBORO 7

Troy showed why they’re still one of the top teams in the district after beating Wellsboro on Friday night by 46 points. Troy scored 36 points in the first quarter.

Mason Smith retured the opening kickoff 90 yards and from there, it was all Troy. Brendan Gilliland had a 4-yard touchdown run to give Troy a 14-0 lead, then scored on a 53-yard run for 21-0 lead with 4:00 left in the first.

Gilliland punched in a five-yard run for a 29-0 lead following a two-point conversion with 1:16 to play and just 34 seconds later, Spencer Martin had a 33-yard touchdown run for the 36-0 early lead.

Gilliland ended with 122 yards and three touchdowns on just five carries as Troy ran the ball 39 times as a team for an impressive 387 yards. In addition to Gilliland, Troy saw Mason Smith run for 37 yards on five carries, Kael Millard have four for 31 and Spencer Martin have a carry for 33 yards.

Wellsboro struggled offensively, having just 154 yards, 109 of which were from Griffin Morral who went 9 for 24 with a touchdown. That touchdown came in the fourth quarter when he found Gideon Lawton for a 32-yard touchdown to avoid the shutout with 9:37 to play in the game.

Wellsboro had just 55 rushing yards.

WYALUSING 42, CANTON 7

Jonathan Earle had a 58-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter and Evan Vanderpool punched in a score from 7 yards out and Wyalusing used a 16-0 start to put Canton in a hole it never rallied back from en route to a 35-point win.

By the time Canton finally scored a touchdown, the Rams led 35-0. Canton scored on a 90-yard kickoff return by Ryder Route with seven secodns to play before halftime to cut the deficit to 28, but that was the closest Canton would get it.

Brian Deltz scored Wyalusing’s final score with 1:39 to play in the third quarter on a 1-yard run.

Earle led Wyalusing with 174 rushing yards on 20 carries while Vanderpool had 69 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns and Reuben Kinney had 67 yards on five carries and a touchdown.

Canton had just 107 yards of total offense, 80 of which came on the ground from a host of running backs who carried it 23 times.
