Hughesville earned a 3-1 win against South Williamsport in girls volleyball. The Spartans won the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-20, before the Mounties won the third set in a close contest, 26-24. Hughesville won the fourth set, 25-11.

Hughesville was led by junior Anna Easton, who had 15 kills, and senior Ava Gorg, who recorded 12 aces.

Montoursville’s inaugural volleyball season has been nothing shy of impressive as the Warriors moved above .500 with a 3-2 win against Central Columbia on Monday. The Warriors won the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-8, before the Blue Jays rallied for two wins, 25-21 and 25-22.

In the decisive fifth set, Montoursville won, 15-9, to secure the win.

“Montoursville started strong with a balanced offense and stellar defense in sets one and two and remained strong from the service line,” Montoursville coach Tom Ku’uipo said. “The Blue Jays were not to finish their senior night without mustering up an offensive response of their own, battling back from a two-set deficit to push the Warriors back to even after winning sets three and four.”

The Warriors made adjustments coming into the fifth set to win.

Both March Manotti and Emma Ammerman had 14 digs each while Sydney Clark, Ruth Lauchle and Laney Yonkin had 11 apiece. Clark led the team with eight kills while Dahlia Campbell recorded six.

• Katelyn Temple scored twice in less than two minutes to give Hughesville a lead it wouldn’t relinquish en route to an exciting 2-1 win over South Williamsport in girls soccer.

Temple scored off a Sierra Dewire assist at the 24:38 mark. Then with the clock showing 26:29, Temple again found the back of the net, this time off an Elizabeth Wolfe assist.

The Mounties would break up the shutout with 5:15 until halftime when Rylan Isenberg scored, but the Mounties were unable to put in an equalizer as the Spartans controlled possession. Hughesville out-shot South, 20-3.

Althea Street had 15 saves for the Mounties.

Williamsport’s offense erupted for six goals as the Millionaires defeated Central Mountain at home, 6-0. Jaelynn Helmrich had a hat trick while Loisa Hofstrom, Deborah Shultz and Seyler Eiswerth all had a goal.

Hofstrom had two assists and Hannah Baird made two saves.

Montgomery defeated North Penn-Mansfield in a double overtime contest which saw the Red Raiders earn a close 4-3 win. Miranda Staggert scored in the 92nd minute to seal the win.

Mansfield saw Brooke Wilcox score two goals late in the game, including her second in the 74th minute, to tie the game at 3-3 and force overtime after trailing 3-1 when Addisyn Grimm scored off a penalty kick in the 65th minute.

The win secures a second straight District 4 playoff berth for the Red Raiders (9-8). Mansfield (8-8-1) has a matchup with Northeast Bradford on Friday.

After falling behind 1-0 after 15 minutes of play, Montoursville started playing well and found the back of the net three times en route to a 3-1 win against State College. Adele Dunkleberger, Kenna Bennett and Kinsley Schon all scored for the Warriors while Faith Berwanger had two assists. The Warriors out-shot State College, 16-4.

• Jersey Shore defeated Muncy in boys soccer, 4-0, on Monday thanks to scoring two goals in each half.

Gabe Welshans scored two first-half goals while Dylan Hensler scored twice in the second half. Breylan Guerrero, Ezra Paulhamus and Adison Heddings all had assists for the Bulldogs.
