Plenty of area teams set for District 4 soccer playoffs as brackets are released

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Montoursville and Loyalsock are both in the District 4 Class AA playoffs and have first-round games on Thursday. If both win, it'll set up a rivalry quarterfinal game between the two.
The District 4 girls and boys soccer playoff brackets were released early Sunday afternoon and numerous area teams will be looking to make runs in various classifications.
South Williamsport and Muncy are both in the girls Class A tournament once again on opposite sides of the bracket. The two will hope to meet up for the district title in a rematch of last year’s championship, but have to play the team’s at hand first without looking too far down the road.
South Williamsport, seeded fourth, faces Northumberland Christian on Saturday at Midd-West on Saturday at a time to be announced. Muncy will also play at Midd-West at a time to be announced for a matchup with East Juniata.
Montgomery, in the postseason for a second consecutive season, have a matchup with top-seeded Southern Columbia at Danville at a time to be announced on Saturday.
In Class AA, Hughesville enters as the second seed in the field and will await the winner of Wellsboro vs. Williamson. That NTL matchup is at Wellsboro on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Hughesville faces one of them on Thursday at Balls Mills on Thursday at a time to be announced.
Warrior Run, seeded fourth, faces fifth-seeded Montoursville at Danville on Thursday at a time to be announced. North Penn-Mansfield, which qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2013, faces Midd-West at Midd-West on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The winner of that game advances to face Troy at Balls Mills on Thursday at a time to be announced.
Lewisburg has a first-round matchup at Bloomsburg on Tuesday at. 4 p.m. with the winner facing top-seeded Central Columbia on Thursday at a time to be announced.
Milton is the only area team in Class AAA competition on the girls side. The Black Panthers face Selinsgrove at Midd-West on Saturday at a time to be announced. Shikellamy is the top seed and faces fourth-seeded Athens in the other semifinal on Saturday at Balls Mills at a time to be announced.
Montgomery’s boys soccer team is in the postseason for a third consecutive season and are looking for their first postseason win under coach Mike Sherman since bringing the program back in 2020. The Red Raiders face second-seeded Millville at Danville on Saturday at a time to be announced.
Montgomery is one of two area teams in Class A competition. Galeton is facing top-seeded Benton at Loyalsock on Saturday at a time to be announced.
In Class AA, Lewisburg is the top seed after going 17-0-1 and will face either North Penn-Liberty or Warrior Run. The Defenders travel to Liberty on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game. Lewisburg faces them on Saturday at a time to be announced.
Montoursville, seeded fourth, hosts Lourdes on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Loyalsock, seeded 12th after qualifying on Thursday for the postseason, travels to Wellsboro for a rematch from a regular-season game with the Green Hornets on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Hughesville travels to Danville on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game and Milton travels to Williamson on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. matchup.
No area teams are competing in Class AAA. Top-seeded Athens faces Shikellamy on Saturday at Balls Mills at 6 p.m. while Selinsgrove faces Mifflinburg on Saturday at Midd-West at 4 p.m. in the semifinals.
