Furious rally falls just short in 60-54 setback at Dickinson
CARLISLE — The Lycoming College men’s basketball nearly overcame an 18-point deficit thanks to 15 second-half points from sophomore Princeton Layton, but Dickinson clawed out a 60-54 victory over the Warriors in a non-conference battle on Saturday at the Kline Center.
Dickinson (1-3) raced out to a 32-16 lead at halftime, then extended the advantage over Lycoming (2-2) to 18 points at the 18:23 mark in the second half. The Warriors, however, put together a 17-3 run over the next four-plus minutes to roar back into the game, including eight straight points from Layton at one juncture.
Layton’s final bucket, a layup at the 7:43 mark, closed the gap to 44-43 in Dickinson’s favor, but the Lycoming was unable to make the final push to pull off the comeback, as the Red Devils hit five free throws in the final minute to hold off the Warriors.
Junior forward Hayden Pardoe, a Central Mountain graduate, led the Warriors with 16 points and six rebounds, including a perfect 6 for 6 mark at the free throw stripe. He also added three assists, two blocks and two steals. Layton scored all 15 of his points in the second half, going 5 of 8 from the field and 2 for 3 behind the three-point line, while pulling down four boards and snagging three steals.
Dickinson was led by Isaiah Edmond’s 12 points and six assists, plus eight points and 12 boards from Dane Moran.
The Warriors will open up Landmark Conference play with a trip to Wilkes-Barre to take on the Wilkes University on Wednesday. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. from the Marts Center.
