LHU hopes to secure first winning season since ‘81

Last week’s home game against Shepherd didn’t go the way Lock Haven had wished it would. Now, sitting at 5-5, the Bald Eagles have a chance to make history in the regular-season finale against Gannon at Hubert Jack Stadium.

A win would give the Bald Eagles their first winning season since 1981.

The Bald Eagles fell to Shepherd last week, 35-19, to drop to .500. Shepherd led 14-0 at halftime and Lock Haven tried rallying, but a 14-point fourth quarter helped Shepherd seal the win and move to 6-4.

Jackson Ostrowsky had another solid passing performance as he threw for 336 yards on 34 for 51 passing with three touchdowns, although he did throw three interceptions. Damir Green led the Bald Eagles’ ground game as he ran for 58 yards on 10 carries.

Defensively, Lock Haven couldn’t contain Jordan Barnett on the ground as he ran for 131 on 18 carries with two rushing touchdowns, averaging 7.3 per carry, while Michael Hardyway threw for 307 yards on 23 for 31 passing.

The Bald Eagles have won three in a row against Gannon. All three losses have been close games, however. Last year, Lock Haven won at Gannon, 21-13. In 2019, Lock Haven beat Gannon, 28-27, at home and beat Gannon in 2018 on the road in a shootout, 50-48.

Gannon is having a rough season and are 1-9 entering today’s game against Lock Haven. Gannon’s lone win was an upset victory over No. 14-ranked Slippery Rock, 38-35, on Oct. 4.

Last week, the Golden Knights suffered a 41-21 loss to California (Pa.). Gannon is allowing roughly 40 points per game this year and is averaging just 21.4 per game itself.

Ty Hurst leads Gannon with 1,932 passing yards and has thrown 15 touchdowns to just four interceptions. On the ground, Tristen Kenan leads Gannon with 664 rushing yards and four touchdowns as he averages 4.3 yards per carry.

The Bald Eagles are hoping for a historic victory today to finally secure that first winning season in more than 40 years.
