Sophomore guard Jocelyn McCracken – a Jersey Shore graduate – matched her career-high with 13 points and led the Lycoming College women’s basketball to an early lead in their season opener, but Lycoming fell, 73-38, against Franklin & Marshall in non-conference action on Sunday at Lamade Gym.

Franklin & Marshall (1-0) shot 40 percent (27-of-67) from the field while holding Lycoming (0-1) to 27 percent (15-of-47).

The Warriors started off strong, scoring the first five points of the contest and holding Franklin & Marshall scoreless for the first two-and-a-half minutes. The lead grew to 13-4 in the first five minutes, with McCracken scoring eight of those points for Lycoming.

The Diplomats, though, then went on a 23-0 run, as Franklin & Marshall led 16-13 after one quarter and 30-19 at the break and the Diplomats never let the Warriors back within single digits.

McCracken scored her 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting along with a team high-tying five rebounds. Fellow juniors Sydney Stone – a Montoursville graduate – and Ann-Marie McMurtrie – a Penns Valley graduate – each added six points, with Stone also pulling down five rebounds and McMurtrie snagging four steals.

Franklin & Marshall was led by Lizzie Neville, who scored 21 points on 9-for-19 shooting and added seven rebounds and four steals. Gia Sioutis posted an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double.

The Warriors will hit the road on Saturday to take on the University of Valley Forge. Tip-off from The Pit in Phoenixville will be at 1 p.m.
