Penn College’s men’s basketball team loses heartbreaker in OT
ELMIRA, N.Y. – Penn College fell to Elmira College in overtime, 96-95, in a non-conference men’s basketball contest Friday. The Wildcats fell to 1-8, while the Eagles improved to 5-3.
Deadlocked at 82 to end the second quarter, Penn College used a 5-3 start of overtime to take an 87-85 lead on Ethan Roman’s three with four minutes left. The Wildcats later used a three from Octovio Alexander, and a Jay Henry bucket, to take a 92-88 advantage with 2:51 on the clock.
Elmira used an 8-3 run, including six from the stripe, to regain the lead and ice the contest in the final 2:39.
Leading 39-31 at the end of the first half, Penn College built a 43-36 lead on an Alexander layup with 18:06 left in the game. The Eagles answered with an 11-4 run to tie the game at 47-47, with 14:39 left.
The Wildcats quickly regained the lead and held it for nearly five minutes until Emira tied the game again, 61-61, with 9:48 on the clock. Following five more ties over the next eight minutes, Landon Reeder put PCT ahead 82-80 with 56 seconds left before Elmira tied it for a final time seconds later to eventually send the game to overtime.
Josh Shepard paced the Wildcats with 15 points, including 12 from behind the arc. Henry and Reeder added 10 points each, while Brian Rivera and Roman pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.
Penn College returns to action Dec. 13 at Alfred University.
