LHU women’s basketball sinks Ship behind strong shooting

SHIPPENSBURG – The Lock Haven women’s basketball team used an impressive start to propel them to a dominant 81-50 road win over Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Thursday night.

The Bald Eagles kept it rolling on Thursday night and improved to 13-5 overall and 9-3 in the PSAC. Lock Haven is now 7-0 vs. Eastern Division opponents. The Haven’s last five wins have all come by double figures.

Lock Haven jumped out to a seven-point lead through the first quarter before extending it to 44-27 at the half. Another 20-spot in the third frame widened the Bald Eagle lead to 64-38 behind shooting from the field that exceeded 60%.

A 17-12 fourth quarter and an 81-50 final score secured a seventh straight victory for Lock Haven.

Madeline Evans recorded her 15th double-double of the season with a game-high 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Evans contributed to the efficient shooting night, shooting 6-9 from the floor and 6-7 from the free-throw line.

Jenadia Jordan played well on both sides of the floor with 16 points on 7-9 shooting, seven assists, three steals and a career-high four blocked shots.

Alana Robinson also had a stellar two-way performance. On her birthday, Robinson added 13 points on 5-9 shooting, five assists, six rebounds, three blocks and four steals.

Rhlyn Rouse found double figures with 10 points on 4-5 shooting and Lacey Kriebel came off the bench to drill three 3-pointers on seven attempts.

Lock Haven finished the game 30-56 (57%) from the field, 8-20 (40%) from behind the three-point line and 13-18 (72%) from the free throw line.

The Bald Eagles won the rebounding battle 33-23 and finished with a season-high eight blocked shots. The Haven scored 20 points from 17 Shippensburg turnovers and 36 points in the paint.

Lock Haven will return home on Saturday when it hosts Shepherd for a 1 p.m. tip-off in PSAC East Division play.
