Penn College men lose exciting OT matchup to PSU Berks 105-101
READING — Penn College dropped a 105-101 overtime decision to Penn State Berks in a United East men’s basketball contest Tuesday. The Wildcats fell to 2-3 UE, 3-13 overall, while the Nittany Lions improved to 3-3, 4-12.
Penn College overcame a 23-16 deficit at the midway point of the first half with a 29-17 run to lead 45-40 at halftime.
A traditional three-point play from Jay Henry, with 15:11 left in the game, gave the Wildcats its third 10-point lead, 62-52, of the second half before Lions answered with a 12-2 run to tie the game at 64-64 with 13:15 on the clock. Berks led by as many as seven, 76-69, with 9:51 on remaining before a Henry trey at 6:35 put PCT ahead, 80-79. Following two more ties, the Lions regained a 91-90 advantage with 30 seconds left before Henry hit 1-of-2 free throws with 10 seconds on the clock to send the game to overtime.
Penn College overcame a four-point, 97-93, deficit to tie the game at 97 after a three by Landon Reeder, and a Henry free throw with two minutes left. Berks later tied the game at 99-99 before converting 6-of-6 from the line in the final minute to ice the game.
Reeder picked up his second straight double-double with a game-high 27 points and a game-best 15 rebounds. Henry finished with a season-high 23 points and added five rebounds and five assists, while Octavio Alexander added 15 points, Peyton Murphy 14, and Neyshawn Mabry 11.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m., hosting Penn State Harrisburg.
