District 4 Senior Shootout all-star game set for March 29
The inaugural District 4 Senior Shootout all-star basketball game is scheduled for Sunday, March 29 at Williamsport. The event will showcase the region’s top senior talent while celebrating the coaches, programs and traditions that have defined District 4 basketball for decades.
The North and South girls teams will play at 2 p.m. at the Magic Dome and the boys game will follow shortly afterwards. Both games will feature two 20-minute halves and 12-player rosters.
“This all-star game is about giving District 4 seniors the spotlight they deserve,” said Ed Weaver, owner of Circle W Sports, which is presenting the game. “There is so much talent and pride in this region, and we wanted to create an event that honors that tradition while giving these athletes one last chance to compete together.”
Former Loyalsock coach Ron Insinger (North) and Hughesville’s Nick Tagliaferri (South) will meet in the boys game, while Mount Carmel’s Lisa Varano (South) will go head-to-head against former North Penn-Mansfield coach Jason Dominick (North).
Insinger retired this past year after a 51-year career with the Lancers, becoming Pennsylvania’s all-time winningest coach (1,060 wins) and a state title in 20201.
Tagliaferri won 184 games during his tenure with Hughesville, including four District 4 titles and three conference championships.
Varano was Mount Carmel’s coach from 2009-23 where she went 311-66 and guided the Tornadoes to the 2020-21 PIAA Class AA championship after beating Neshannock, 54-43. Mount Carmel won 11 titles in her 14 years.
Dominick built Mansfield into a District 4 and NTL powerhouse, winning back-to-back district titles in 2015 and 2016 and reached the PIAA Elite Eight in 2015. He won 139 games and produced a .688 winning percentage.
