Five Warriors claim titles at Rodarmel Allstate Invitational

Five Lycoming College wrestlers – junior 133-pounder Bobby Gardner (a South Williamsport graduate), senior 157-pounder Kobin Karper, junior 174-pounder Nolen Zeigler, senior 184-pounder Eli Crum and junior 197-pounder Ivan Neal – won their weight classes and a total of 13 placed as the team claimed the Rennie Rodarmel Allstate Invitational on Sunday.

Gardner posted four wins, three by tech fall and one by pin en route to the title at 133 pounds, posting a 16-0 tech fall of Muhlenberg’s Max Rotter, pinning Christian Borges in 16 seconds, adding a 20-4 tech fall of Misericordia’s Hayden Best before notching a 19-3 win over Kruz McCusker in the final.

Karper also won four matches en route to the title at 157 pounds, notching two pins, a tech fall and a major decision. He pinned Scranton’s Stephen Elinski in 40 seconds and Penn College’s Calvin Napoletano in a minute to reach the semifinals, where he posted a 16-0 tech fall of Misericordia’s Brady Colville, closing the day with a 12-3 major decision of Kennedy Thomas in the final.

Zeigler, ranked 11th in the nation, swept through the tournament with four pins, decking Muhlenberg’s Noah Schlofer in 1:18, Penn College’s Lincoln Archibald in 2:00, Scranton’s Charles Kitching in 1:29 and Utica’s Seth Richardson in 2:12.

Crum also notched three pins to take the title at 184 pounds, posing a pin of Scranton’s Timothy Carbonaro in 42 seconds, Muhlenberg’s Archie Rubin in 1:53 and King’s Jake Bobersky in 1:38.

Neal rounded out the champions, winning four bouts en route to the 197-pound title. He pinned Scranton’s Joseph Epright in 54 seconds before tech falls of Misericordia’s Tristan Cuellar, 19-4, and Penn College’s Tyler Prince, 18-3, to reach the finals, where he beat regionally-ranked Nero Bono of Keystone, 7-2.

Freshman heavyweight Howard Brambley finished second, as he pinned Scranton’s Max Shnipes in 55 seconds and King’s Sam Moffet in 6:30 to reach the finals, where Misericordia’s Aiden Hidley notched a 5-2 win.

Junior 141-pounder Major Lewis and senior heavyweight Michael Sipps, a Cowanesque Valley graduate, each took third, sophomore Quinton Bartlett (a Lewisburg graduate) took fourth, freshman 184-pounder Isaiah Betz, a Warrior Run graduate, and senior 197-pounder Jimmy Ellis finished fifth and senior 133-pounder Anthony Coukart and junior 141-pounder Avery Rosan came in sixth.
