LHU’s Wyatt Henson earns 100th win as Bald eagles beat Kent State 37-3

KENT, Ohio – No. 24 Wyatt Henson became the third Lock Haven men’s wrestler to reach 100-career victories this season during the Bald Eagles 37-3 Mid-American Conference victory at Kent State on Thursday night.

With the win, Lock Haven (13-4) wrapped up its MAC schedule with a 6-1 record to secure second place in the East for the regular season.

Lock Haven, who remained the MAC Tournament favorite following the Feb. MAC rankings, has now won 12 of its last 13 matches. Lock Haven put on a clinic on Thursday night and took nine of the 10 bouts, including three tech falls, a fall and a major decision.

One of Lock Haven’s tech falls came from Henson, who picked up his 100th-career victory with the effort, after defeating Landen Duncan, 20-4, in 4:33. It marks the 11th tech fall of the season for Henson, ranking in the top-4 in the country.

No. 33 Avery Bassett (16-1, 4:52) and Sam Gautreau (19-4, 3:45) put the match far out of reach with back-to-back tech fall wins at 174 and 184, respectively. No. 23 Lucas Kapusta secured the loan major decision of the match, after downing Nate Roth, 10-2.

Cowanesque Valley graduate Kade Sottolano put an exclamation point on the victory with a pin at heavyweight in 7:24.

Curtis Nelson opened the match with a sudden victory (5-2) at 125, while Nick Stampoulos (157), Gable Strickland (133) and Tucker Hogan (197) also picked up decision victories.

Kent State’s lone victory came by decision at 165 pounds.
