Penn College women cruise past Cairn on senior day
Penn College defeated Cairn, 71-49, on Senior Day in a United East women’s basketball game, Saturday afternoon inside Bardo Gym. The win upped the Wildcats conference record to 10-2, 18-6 overall. The Highlanders fell to 1-11 UEC, 2-18 overall.
Wildcat seniors Mia Patterson, a Loyalsock graduate, and Lexi Troup bookeneded the game’s opening 10-5 run. Patterson scored the first basket before St. John Neumann graduate Gigi Parlante scored three and RaeAnna Andreas nailed a triple before Troup closed out the run with a bucket in the game’s first four minutes. Patterson added four more points in the first quarter to give the Wildcats a 16-12 lead.
The Highlanders moved within five points with 5:35 left in the second quarter, but three-straight Wildcat layups by Eliza Newcomer, Patterson and Troup pushed the lead back to 32-21. Galbreath’s triple with 21 seconds left closed out the first half with a 37-23 PCT lead.
Penn College maintained its lead through the second half and outscored the Highlanders, 34-26 in the third and fourth quarters.
Parlante dropped 12 points and grabbed 10 boards while also dishing out a team-high six assists. Troup scored 11 points and collected three steals and seven rebounds. Parlante scored a team-high 19 points while Andreas (12), and Galbreath (11) also finished in double figures.
PCT forced 18 tunovers and held the Highlanders to just 33% (20-60) shooting.
Penn College closes out its regular season at Gallaudet on Saturday at 3 p.m.
