Crews battle South Williamsport forest fire

In sweltering heat conditions, numerous fire companies were battling a reported forest fire late Tuesday afternoon and into the evening in the first block of Sulphur Springs Road, just south of Market and Main streets, in South Williamport.
Several brush trucks and all-terrain vehicles, manned by volunteer firefighters, were being used to fight the intense fire, which was first reported just before 4 p.m.
Crews from the state Bureau of Forestry also were on the scene.
Motorists should expect delays.
At about 5:50 p.m , paramedics were called to the scene to treat an injured firefighter. No details were available concerning the extent of the injuries.
Smoke was visible on rugged terrain behind McDonald’s on Route 15.
