Man left homeless after camper fire

PHOTO PROVIDED

A man was left homeless Thursday afternoon after fire destroyed his medium-sized camper at the Susquehanna Campground off of Route 220 in Piatt Township, according to Joe Mitchell, deputy fire chief for Citizens Hose Company in Jersey Shore. The owner, whose name was not released, was not at the campground, where he lives year round, Mitchell said. The cause of the fire remained under investigation, but it was not considered suspicious, he said. The local chapter of the American Red Cross was assisting the displaced victim, who did not have any fire insurance, Mitchell said. Besides the borough’s two fire companies, Woodward Township firefighters also responded on the 2:10 p.m. call.
