After jumping off from the city side of the Maynard Street bridge in Williamsport, and swimming in the Susquehanna River for about 30 minutes on Sunday night, the male jumper was lifted into a city fire department boat, taken to shore and turned over to state police.

The man’s identity was not released. Fire crews were dispatched to the bridge about 6:10 p.m. for a confirmed report of a jumper. Fire officials said the man apparently was not injured in the jump.

Troopers had confronted him on the bridge moments before he jumped in the river, according to sources.
