Three charged with DUI
At the scene of a crash where he had upset his moped at Penn and Wilson streets about 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 4, William Grimes, 58, of 816 Clark St., admitted to city police that he had been “drinking all day, was constantly drunk and was an alcoholic,” according to an affidavit.
Grimes “smelled heavily of an alcoholic beverage and his speech was slurred,” police said, adding that although he did not appear to be injured, it took two officers to help him. Grimes, who had a blood-alcohol concentration level of .36, was charged with DUI and is free on bail.
In another case, moments after pulling over Casandra Burno near Eldred and Franklin streets in the city for numerous vehicle code violations about 1:15 a.m. on Oct. 31, the state trooper saw an open half-empty bottle of wine on the front passenger seat, according to an affidavit.
Burno’s eyes were glossy and bloodshot, and the 34-year-old woman admitted she had “consumed alcohol earlier,” the affidavit stated. While undergoing a series of field sobriety tests, Burno, of 1119 Franklin St., “demonstrated signs of impairment,” police said. Charged with DUI and three summary violations, Burno, who had a blood-alcohol concentration of .15, is free on $1,500 bail.
In another case, Alexsis Peterson, 48, of Turbotville, has been charged with DUI after a blood test revealed that he had a blood-alcohol concentration level of .16 when a South Williamsport police officer stopped his 1996 Jeep Cherokee after he failed to use a turn signal when changing lanes on Route 15 in the borough on May 14, 2020, according to an affidavit. He was released on $5,000 bail after he waived his preliminary hearing.
