Charges continue to mount against convicted felon

Although his arrest record prohibits him from carrying a firearm, that did not stop Jaziah Strickland from posting on his social media page a video and a photo of him with such a weapon, it was alleged in an affidavit filed by a detective assigned to the county’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit. The video shows the 26-year-old man with a handgun “partially concealed in his front right waistband,” the detective said.

“He also posted a photograph of himself holding and pointing the firearm at that camera while concealing his face with a purple devil emoji,” the detective said, adding that Strickland, formerly of the 900 block of Park Avenue, was convicted in 2018 of felony aggravated assault, which prohibits him from possessing any firearms. It was alleged that he posted the items on Oct. 31 while in the 900 block of Grampian Boulevard in the city, the investigator said in the court document. Following his arraignment Friday before District Judge William Solomon on a felony charge of convicted felon not to possess a firearm, Strickland, now living in the Lewisburg area, was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.

Strickland was arrested in mid-April 2024 by detectives after they seized cocaine, methamphetamine and a handgun while executing a search warrant at his then home on Park Avenue, according to court records. While incarcerated on charges in this case, he is alleged to have punched two corrections officers on July 13, 2024, and was charged with two counts of aggravated assault. In mid-January 2018, he was arrested after allegedly punching his then 17-year-old pregnant girlfriend several times in the face and kicking her twice in the stomach while the two were in UPMC Williamsport.
