Authorities juggle incidents across city Sunday night

PHILIP A. HOLMES/Sun-Gazette With city police tied up with two other high-priority calls, Pennsylvania College of Technology police provided mutual aid by responding to the crash on the Market Street bridge and handling the investigation.

As the saying goes – “When it rains, it pours.”

No one was injured when two cars collided in the northbound lanes on the city side of the Market Street bridge about 6:15 p.m. Sunday, according to city firefighters.

At about the same time as the crash, city police were dispatched to two back-to-back high-priority calls; one involving a “fight in progress” near Via Bella and William Street and another involving an individual reportedly being chased by someone with a gun.

With officers tied up on these and other calls, Pennsylvania College of Technology police were dispatched to handle the crash on the bridge – which was quite busy with Sunday night traffic.

Motorists were able to get around the crash site, which was well lit up with the lights from a fire truck. Both vehicles were towed from the scene about an hour after the crash.

City police said no one was injured and no arrests were made in the gun incident, which remains under investigation.

Those involved in the fight may face a summary disorderly conduct charge in the days ahead, police said.
