A homeless man has been charged with abusing the 911 system and disorderly conduct for allegedly making several false medical reports in order to gain shelter and food, a city police affidavit said.

Michael Anthony Ohrt, 59, allegedly contacted fire and EMS 24 times over the past year claiming to have a medical issue, such as chest pain, only for each of those incidents determined to be unfounded, according to court documents.

During the latest incident on Jan. 15, 2026, Ohrt was transported to UPMC Williamsport for evaluation, and was discharged as no medical issues were found. At that point, Ohrt allegedly urinated on the floor of the hospital before exiting.

Ohrt allegedly explained that he made the calls because he is homeless and needs a place to stay, explaining that he wore out his welcome at area homeless shelters due to his hygeine, police said in an affidavit.

Ohrt was arraigned on the charges by District Judge Kirsten Gardner and jailed at the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
