State police release additional information on occupants in South Williamsport fire
State police have released additional information regarding the two occupants of a house fire at 2310 Bedaro Drive, South Williamsport, that occurred Tuesday night.
The two were previously identified by the Sun-Gazette as John and Carol Butler, lead pastor and executive pastor, respectively, of the Wings of Love Community Church.
Initial scanner reports indicated possible entrapment, however, when fire crews arrived, John, 65, and Carol, 64, were out of the structure, the press release said.
John Butler was able to exit the home on his own, while neighbor, Eric Smith, a retired city fire platoon chief, was credited with rescuing Carol Butler, the Sun-Gazette previously reported.
The couple sustained burn and smoke inhalation injuries, and were initially transported to UPMC, before being flown to the burn unit at Lehigh Medical Center, according to the state police press release.
John Butler was reported to be in stable condition, while Carol Butler was listed as being in critical condition, the release said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by a member of the state police fire/explosion investigation unit.
